4 Reasons to Visit Racine County in October

Racine County has always been a summertime hotspot for tourism. But in the last few years, our Fall Season has been just as popular as the summer months. It’s easy to see why — the amount of autumn activities available grows every year and there are some pretty epic events to add to your calendar. Here is a snapshot of your best adventures in Racine County!

October is all about apples and pumpkins and corn mazes, but it is also all about Halloween! Burlington puts on the very best Halloween party in the county. Join them for Spooky City on Saturday, October 25th for all-day fun! Free trick-or-treating starts at 11am; while live music, face painting, street performances, a costume walk, and free cookies are available throughout the day. There are movies, food, and drinks so you can celebrate the holiday all day long. But the most iconic piece of Spooky City happens from noon-2pm, when the Coffin Races take place! A truly unique event, teams enter to race their decorated coffins through Downtown Burlington! Teams choose a theme and costumes, then sprint their coffins to the finish line. This event defies description — come see it for yourself! More Spooky City details are revealed daily so follow them on at www.Facebook.com/SpookyCity.

Racine County loves October and Bear Den Zoo. Located in Waterford on the west end of the county, Bear Den Zoo is another family-owned small business that is all about the animals. You can get up close to deer, kittens, pigs, kangaroos, chickens, and lemurs! In October, Bear Den Zoo fully embraces fall and offers wagon rides, hot apple cider, caramel apples, pumpkins, and more!

If you love zoos, visit the Racine Zoo between October 2nd-31st and experience Jack-O-Lantern Nights. You can stroll the zoo and find over 1,000 lit jack-o-lanterns, along with pumpkin sculptures (a personal Racine County favorite!). The creativity of these artists is truly amazing and you can vote for your favorite decorated space. Tickets are available online at www.racinezoo.org today!

If being scared silly is more your thing, the Abandoned House Complex is located right off I-94 between Highway 11 and Highway 20, and brings in lines of people every night during its season (every Friday and Saturday starting end of September through early November.) The Abandoned House Complex has three totally different houses with each one needing about 20 minutes to walk through. This attraction prides itself on scaring you in multiple ways, so be prepared not just for zombies and people jumping out, but also for bright lighting effects and illusions. Lastly, the Abandoned Haunted House Complex hosts Blackout Nights, which means that all the lights are turned off in one of the houses and you use an LED candle to find your way through the haunts. You can go online and buy your tickets soon!

Come for a day, an evening, or a weekend. No matter what time you have, Racine County has time for you. Visit us online at visitracinecounty.com or call 262-884-6400.
