Eau Claire’s Red’s Mercantile is the modern-day version of the old-timey general store concept, with a bit of everything: clothes, shoes, household décor items and bath and body products—all with a clean, Scandinavian bent. Owner Becca Cooke only carries items that are made in America and pieces are beautifully crafted, minimal in design and well-made. Cooke’s other mission (besides retail) was to “create a gathering place for women in the Chippewa Valley,” so Red’s Mercantile hosts workshops, concerts, rallies and more. The shop’s celebration of small makers means it’s certainly worth a stop if you’re in the area.
