Throughout the summer, festivals — from music to art to food — are a big part of Wisconsin culture.

Middleton is no different.

May is Art Walk Middleton, the first festival of the season, taking place May 16 in Downtown Middleton. Dozens of local and regional artists line Terrace Avenue with prints, canvases, sculptures, carvings, jewelry, glass, stoneware, metal works and so much more. There is also live music at Capital Brewery & Bier Garten, food trucks and lots of family-friendly activities.

In June, Pride is celebrated all month with various events, with Pride Day  on June 13 at Stone Horse Green — the downtown outdoor green space and open stage. This event is free and open to all with live music, vendors and family-friendly activities.

Celebrate everyone’s favorite condiment during the National Mustard Day Festival! Always held on the first Saturday of August, the National Mustard Day Festival is set for August 1 this year and will continue the tradition of games, vendors, live bands, bouncy houses and mustard-themed foods and treats, including Chocolate Shoppe’s Ice Cream’s mustard-flavored ice cream — raspberry mustard with vanilla ice cream and chocolate and raspberry swirls. This festival is mentioned nationally every year, gaining attention through its charming and delicious fun.

What began as the town’s largest block party has brought neighbors together for more than 60 years. The Good Neighbor Festival, Aug. 28-30, is entirely organized and run by volunteers and all profits are divided among participating clubs and nonprofits. Bring your families to the carnival, art fair, parade, Good Neighbor Award, 5K and more; and each afternoon through evening, stop into the beer tents with different bands performing on stage throughout the weekend.

Finally, the community all gathers in the heart of downtown for live music, kids’ activities or just to enjoy a drink or meal outside in the public green space, Stone Horse Green — named such because it was once the location of one of the city’s first livery stations. There is an electric fireplace, a real fire pit, bistro tables, a charging station, stage and multiple art installations. Check its calendar for weekly events starting in May.
