With our glistening snow and frosty temperatures, it’s no wonder that Wisconsin is a prime destination for some of the best Christmas celebrations around. From sleigh rides to tree lightings to old-fashioned fun, here are six of our favorite holiday events.
Lake Geneva: Christmas in the Country (Through Dec. 31)
Held at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, its yearly Christmas in the Country celebration is truly a sight to behold. Starting in November and continuing throughout December, you can drive through a light display then head to the resort for Christmas story readings, gingerbread house displays and even a Holiday Tea.
Prairie du Sac: Wollersheim Winery & Distillery Vintage Christmas (Nov. 30)
This one-day event takes place at Wollersheim and is made for those who enjoy sipping vino during the holidays. Take a self-guided tour, then relish in Christmastime treats and cheeses paired with three wines. The distillery offers tastings, too, along with a take-home glass. Revel in old-fashioned holiday decorations as you sip and savor.
Stoughton: Victorian Holiday Weekend (Dec. 5 – 8)
Spend a December weekend in Stoughton as you and your family participate in a myriad of holiday events, ranging from a tree lighting to a craft market to a parade. Then, take a self-guided tour of four historic area homes decorated in all their holiday glory.
Ripon: Dickens of a Christmas (Dec. 6 – 8)
Charming downtown Ripon becomes even more charming during this annual event. Over two days, you can view the impressive “Living Windows” as actors dressed up in holiday finery create magical scenes. Also, don’t miss the horse-drawn carriage rides and Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Sister Bay: Capture the Spirit (Nov. 29 – 30)
Door County transforms into a Christmas destination with its famed Capture the Spirit event. Throughout the weekend, you can take photos with Santa’s reindeer, decorate Christmas cookies, peruse the Holiday Art Fair and marvel at twinkling lights.
Cable: Christmas in Cable (Dec. 6 – 7)
Cable certainly knows how to throw a holiday celebration. Its Christmas in Cable weekend-long event features a Scandinavian Christmas dinner, breakfast with Santa, an expansive arts and crafts fair and a cookie bazaar.
